Eating Like a Caveman

I'm not a dieter, and by the grace of God have not had to "diet" for the sake of weight loss. However, seems like everyone I know is changing theirs, changing their kids', changing their spouses, trying to get healthy. Some seem extreme: no gluten, no dairy, no soy, no egg, no sugar, no to most nuts, no, no, no.

I've been thinking about seeing an acupuncturist for a chronic health issue. Thought I'd get stuck with a few needles, perhaps a few different times, and be cured. "She's going to put you on the Paleo Diet probably," said my friend that recommended one to me.

"No! I want needles! Maybe some herbs! Not a diet! I already know I'd feel better if I ate better, but I simply do not have the energy (or desire) to radically change the way we eat!"

"Carrie, I am telling you, I had 17 symptoms and within 30 days 15 were gone and two were managed. I'm not hungry, it feels like someone finally pulled the cotton from my head, I'm going to the grocery store without a list, I have energy, I'm pain-free..." on and on she went.

I believe her 100%. Yet, I still want no part of it.

Oh boy! I am always wary of named diets. While I don't eat any gluten thanks to a severe allergy, I often think we would all be better off if we did eat "like cavemen." Presumably, they only ate when they were hungry and ate what was fresh and locally available, with minimal mucking about.

That being said, I still enjoy a lovely glass of wine and some flourless chocolate cake, but generally, I try to stick to my caveperson mentality.

Good luck, my friend.

If the cave "man" prepares all the food, I'm all for it.

I certainly admire your attitude toward dieting, Carrie. And the thing is you are saying this only about and for yourself. You aren't judging anyone else who chooses to diet or chooses a certain diet. So for yourself--stick to your guns! Peace

i'm right there with you. when i started having migraines my doctor said "try cutting out chocolate, wine, cheese, and nuts and see if that helps." um, no thanks. i'll just suffer. :)

I totally hear you - radically changing your diet requires so much time and energy. I'm trying to change mine right now for health reasons and it's so tedious.

Just today I was feeling all resentful about what I call the Tyranny of Exercise and Dieting. How "it works" and "it saves me" and "I feel so great, now" etc. etc. etc.

I think I'd rather be bitter occasionally. :)

I get what you are saying totally - I keep thinking there has to be a better way then following a strict diet and exercise plan????

Sorry Not Sorry
