I can relate! My daughter grew up with an autistic older brother. When she was little she looked up to him, but as she grew, she soon surpassed him in her abilities. For awhile, she shut him out of her life as she lived her self-absorbed teen years. But now, on the verge of adulthood, she has reached into her heart for compassion and love, not only for her brother, but also for her foster brother who is also autistic. Along the way, she also "acquired" a sister and a foster sister, who both came into our family as teens. So she remains the only one who grew up with a special need sibling. Lovely post. Also enjoyed catching up on your last several posts. Especially enjoyed the last one!
