Top 10 Things I Hate About Writing

10. The writing

9. The self doubt

8. All the readers' voices in my head that say, "I want to know more about..." which only serves to make me mad and feel like punishing the reader by deliberately holding back information

7. Every guilty moment spent not writing

6. The dreams, mind wanderings, thoughts and obsessions about the writing

5. The writing

4. A good writing day that makes you temporarily forget just how much you actually do hate the writing

3. The inability to just say, "That's it! I quit!"

2. The feeling that everything you write is pure *&%^ and no one cares anyway

I'm thinking that if it's hard, it's good.

Sorry, but I'm laughing my butt off here! I love #8 - the notion of holding back information just to spite the reader - you crack me up!

I'm curious to know whether all of those things that you hate about writing are also some of the things you love about it. I, for one, love your wordsmithing and can't wait to read what you write, so banish that nasty judge from your mind. Preferably somewhere far, far away in the land of love and light so she can learn to be nice or stay away.

Love you!

Okay. Now the list of what you love about it, please. And make it longer than 10.

Leave 'm wanting more.

Oh, dear.

I hate when people say they want to know more. Just hate it. That's when my stubborn, reactive self pops in and I think "I don't want to tell you more."

Keep going -- have cheer --

The only thing you'd hate more?

Not writing.

I know you you feel....I have a weekly deadline, though, for my newspaper column, so that keeps me chuggin' along. Hey, for someone who hates it so much, you sure are good at it!

What about the writing?
You forgot that one.

I wonder if we'll feel the same way once we're past this stage of things. :-)
